The Essence

Four words that describe Hikmat Culture

Why Hikmat Culture?

Through Hikmat Culture we support artists and cultural initiatives, activate spaces and build partnerships that make room for more ideas and events. We work to bring culture closer to everyday life through theatre, cinema, music, the visual arts and community activities.

In everything we do, we preserve the spirit of Lweibdeh and its distinctive identity, and make room for more expression and creativity.

Lweibdeh… a neighbourhood where art, people and Jordanian identity come together.

Hikmat Culture

Art closer to people… and creativity part of everyday life.

Under the Umbrella

What We’ve Achieved in Hikmat Culture

Rehabilitating the Osama Al-Mashini Theatre

Rehabilitating the Osama Al-Mashini Theatre

We didn’t just renovate the place… we gave it more room to welcome art and people again.

With the Ministry of Culture, we helped rehabilitate the Osama Al-Mashini Theatre in Jabal Al-Lweibdeh, because we believe art needs ready spaces that welcome artists and audiences and give ideas a chance to be shown and shared. The work upgraded the theatre’s facilities and its artistic and technical equipment, along with the outdoor courtyards and the exhibition and workshop halls, so it can keep hosting a wide range of performances and cultural activities.

Rehabilitating the Princess Alia School Theatres (Indoor and Outdoor)

Rehabilitating the Princess Alia School Theatres (Indoor and Outdoor)

We didn’t stop at equipping the place… we filled it with ideas, talent and experiences.

At Princess Alia Secondary School for Girls, we saw the indoor and outdoor theatres as a bigger opportunity for school life, not just two places for performances. We upgraded and equipped them for cultural, artistic and training activities, then filled them with life through arts and culture clubs, workshops, performances and events in which students and teachers took part. The theatre’s use also reached beyond school activities, becoming a place that hosts occasions and gatherings for parents and the local community.

Hikmat Culture Clubs – Schools Since 2021

Hikmat Culture Clubs – Schools

An experience that starts inside the school… and reaches the community.

The experience started in one school, then spread to other public schools in partnership with the Ministry of Education, through a range of arts and culture clubs run by teachers, where students take part by doing and practising. With every club, activities turned into open performances and events that brought participants’ work to the public, and families and the local community came to watch and share in the achievement.

Honouring Photographers

Honouring Photographers

Lenses that caught the moment… and kept its trace.

As part of Hikmat Culture, we honoured a group of photographers who captured people, places and the details of everyday life, turning fleeting moments into images that remain witnesses to their time. The tribute celebrated those who made the lens a way to see society and document its features and changes.

Honouring the “Keeper of Amman’s Memory”

Honouring the “Keeper of Amman’s Memory”

People who keep the details… so Amman stays present.

Every city has people who hold on to details that might be lost over time. So, with Darat Al-Tasweer, we launched the “Keeper of Amman’s Memory” series to celebrate people who have devoted their time and passion to preserving parts of the capital’s history, from collectibles, shop signs and books to photos and stories. The series began with the Duke, Mamdouh Bisharat, and his collection of photos, documents and objects tied to Amman’s history, then Ghazi Khattab, who collected the city’s old shop signs, and then Rabia Al-Nasser, who kept the stories of Amman and Lweibdeh alive through words, reading and storytelling. The series continues, getting to know more people who still hold details of the city’s story worth telling.

Imagine Lweibdeh Festival

Imagine Lweibdeh Festival

Imagine… a day when all of Lweibdeh becomes part of the festival.

We took art to the heart of Lweibdeh and opened the festival to families, artists and young talents, with events spread between the Osama Al-Mashini Theatre and the garden of the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts. With the Ministry of Culture, the Greater Amman Municipality and the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, we offered a free program of performances, music, arts and interactive activities, so the audience could be part of what was happening, not just spectators.

5festivals in two years… bringing people together around art and culture.

The Hikmat Culture Website

The Hikmat Culture Website

Practical tools… that help artists develop their work and build their presence.

We created the Hikmat Culture website as a practical reference for artists, not just a window introducing the initiative. It brings together written and visual content, booklets, blogs and guides that help creatives market their work, build their audience, manage their projects, promote themselves and network better.

Hikmat Culture Grants

Hikmat Culture Grants

Simple support… that gives an idea the chance to become reality.

We open opportunities for artists and creatives to get small grants and encouragement that help them develop their ideas and carry out their projects, along with chances to exhibit, network and build partnerships that open wider paths for their work to reach audiences.
